Asaki Kajima
Asaki Kajima, a sculptor of ethereal structures, whose honours include winning the Fieldays No.8 Wire National Art Award in 2020. Asaki was born and raised in Japan and now lives in Hawke's Bay.
Most recently Asaki has become interested in decomposition, ecosystem balance, the human body’s mechanisms, as well as the coexistences within nature between humans and animals, viruses and humans, and information technology and humans.
Incorporating paper, grasses, wire, glass and clay into her art work, Asaki often works on more than three projects at the same time, using all different kinds of materials. Enjoying the combination natural and manmade things.
Finding inspiration and ideas through walks and runs with her dog at the beach, bush and rivers – it gives her a lot of energy, physically and mentally with many of her creative concepts coming from this movement and from the environment.
